To the Olive Shed - a haven of peace and tranquility. Set amongst a landscape of olive groves that slope away on all four sides.
The White Mountains are the backdrop to the south and the sea, just 10 minutes away to the north. This is truly a beautiful spot.
Inside, everything is calm and minimalist, wood planked walls painted white throughout with flashes of colour. Furniture
made  from reclaimed wood set with a few sourced flee market finds that have been painted and waxed
Lots of Adams personal items make the Olive Shed more of a personal space,
a home from home, some to be enjoyed when a break from writing arises..
The simple kitchen is perfect for preparing and cooking simple meals for two, (The Olive Shed recipe book on hand)
The bathroom consists of a self composting toilet. Showering can be inside or outside under an olive tree.
A writing table on the back deck, the front deck and inside for when the mood for writing requires a change of scenery.
Everything you need is here to make your stay cozy, comfortable and creative.
Don't bring a hair drier as the Olive Shed's electricity comes from the sun and only powers lights, music, fridge and lamps.

Off Grid Living

The Olive Shed offers simple cozy comfort. The power supply uses 230V, supplied by batteries recharged by a photovoltaic system. The simplicity of the building and the ensuing lifestyle require visitors to give time and attention to everyday needs.
The Olive Shed gets filtered water from the local irigation system that waters the olive and fruit trees that surround the shed. , Water consumption at the Olive Shed is a conscious process.
Only organic cleaning agents are used in the Shed, because the wastewater is used to water the herb garden next to the house. The herbs can be used for cooking.
The wastewater from the shower and
the kitchen goes to a tank that is used
to water the herb garden and the olive trees.

Olive Shed Spa Mornings
                           and Afternoons

There is something really special about a luxurious shower in amongst the olive groves.
I have always found that any form of hydrating after a day or two in arid environment is of course essential, but it also triggers your senses in a unique manner. We at the Olive Shed, wish to add to those senses being soothed, by partnering with Pointed Pearl Spa.
A licensed aesthetician will come to the Shed to attend to you and your partners needs with facials that use natural ingredients that include olive oil oils.

The Build - an adventure

Built entirely by hand and with no power,
Adam designed the Olive Shed and went about building it by hand, slowly, with love -
it became his big adventure.
The build and landscaping took just 8 months, but over two years. It was not a blood sweat and tears experience, but one filled with pure joy. Energy came from just living here,  the life of the Greeks that live close by, the Cretan sun, the sea, the food, and the sounds of nature that surrounded Adams work place..

Reclaimed wood and glass was hauled by road from England, with further materials, 70% reclaimed, was sourced from local wood merchants. Interior objects were both hand made or sourced from various vintage and second hand shops in Chania
'There are beautiful sunrises that fill the bedroom with the colour orange, and sometimes spectacular thunderstorms that suddenly appear after the summer heat'
Outside on the wooden decking that surrounds the Olive Shed, theres a selection of vintage cane easy chairs and a rocker. On the rear deck under the bamboo shading theres a rustic table and chairs to eat al fresco with views over the rear field of wild flowers and olive trees beyond.
To the side of the Olive Shed on the platform room deck awaits a rustic double sun lounger and coffee tables, shaded by orange, lemon and cypress trees, giving total seclusion and privacy. A plunge pool planned for mid summer 2018 will cool your bodies from the mid day sun.
Lie on the double sun lounger while watching the sun set behind the white mountains in front of you as it hides and creates wonderful shadows.
Gaze upwards at the night sky filled
with unpolluted peppered stars.

Style-wise is a mixing of different elements and colours
from differing cultures..
Moroccan, Kashmir and Greek rugs, furniture from Eastern Europe re painted. Enamel ware and vintage kitchen pots and pans. Kerosene lamps emit a comforting soft glow when the sun goes down. Together they look convincing and work successfully as a whole, all offset by a background of fresh
white painted walls,ceilings and floors.
